After I had perused a couple articles about the mess we are in as a nation [let alone the world], I knew it was time to focus on other things—namely something that would generate a bit of humor or a chuckle. While I am sure God appreciates my willingness to ponder, pray, and intercede for the multitude of souls who struggle to get from day-to-day, it is also my sense the Divine is aware of our very real need to laugh, even to be just a little silly from time to time.
For me, there’s nothing quite like a calendar of national or international holidays to provide the medicine that will brighten most any day, lighten most any heart.
So, without further ado, consider this a personal invitation to pick one or more of the following subjects and allow yourself to be enveloped in the smiles they offer. And just for the record—these are real celebrations, some of which have been around for generations.
November 2—Look for Circles Day
Given I have what seem to be plenty of ‘going in circles days’, not sure I need to observe this one. Nevertheless, does put an interesting perspective on the round shapes we encounter on a regular basis. Round sun. Round moon. Round orange. Round eyes. You get the idea.
November 4—Use Your Common Sense Day
Well this explains a lot. Just one day? Come on folks. 365 seems like a better idea.
November 15—Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day
Now how many of us can relate to this one? Although I don’t usually need a special day for this little project. Maybe it’s because my occasional forays through the veggie fuzzies helps to minimize the blossoming of any larger yucky, unidentifiable blobs.
November 16—International Tolerance Day
Hmm . . . wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were to make this special occasions make more than a once-a-year celebration?
November 28—French Toast Day
Ah, now here’s one that to tickle the tummy. That is unless you’re still stuffed from the nearby Thanksgiving food fest. Then again, funny how we can wake up hungry, regardless of the stuff we stuffed ourselves with the day before.
Which brings us to the day after Thanksgiving which yes, is Black Friday Day. And it’s also You’re Welcome Day.
So, a day to celebrate what? Who knew? And this is just a small sample.
Here’s to giving yourself or someone else the gift of a smile or chuckle today. Sure makes the world more joyful and peace-filled, even if only for a few hours.
