Over the past several months my beloved and I have reduced the time we spend watching the news and scrolling on social media. And I know we’re not alone. So many issues, so much mean-spirited noise, chaos, and confusion.
A confession—I’m weary of seeing all the numbers that represent human pain and suffering. From the coronavirus to unemployment, the sagging stock market, and everything in between, each one represents a person, a family, a community.
I’m not a pessimist—like to consider myself a positive realist whose faith and trust rest in the wherewithal of the Divine to work all things to good.
Yet it in this particular moment, it becomes even more imperative to return to a number that has the power to move through the heart and bring one into a sense of calm and joy.
The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!
[Numbers 6: 24-26]
