Oh, how serious our world has become. Necessarily so. The stuff of pandemics, polarized politics, and social unrest, all occurring simultaneously no less, is more than enough reason for each of us to consider how we can be more positive than negative.
Which leads me to today’s post amid the realization that smiles [let alone outright spontaneous chuckles] are in rather short supply these days. So, maybe this will help.
Here it is—today is World Mosquito Day. Yep, you read that right.
Who could have imagined these pesky little creatures would have their very own day of recognition? [With all due respect, day of appreciation seems a bit of a stretch.]
And yet, there’s a darker-positive side to this whole thing. Wow, that silly summer smile didn’t last long did it?
Turns out World Mosquito Day was instituted because of the connection between malaria and mosquitoes. The thought was that by giving those critters their twenty-four hours in the spotlight, people of a long past era would be reminded of the need to be ever vigilant so as not to contract that awful disease.
Which got me to thinking. For so many reasons that have nothing to do with a smile, wouldn’t it be convenient if we had a visible-to-the-eye critter we could isolate and eliminate as being responsible for COVID-19?
However, I promised to keep this light. To maybe stir a smile or two.
Happy World Mosquito Day. And in the meantime, may you avoid the bites and nasty little itches that accompany any buzzing efforts to make you an evening snack.
