Okay, don’t panic—that Thanksgiving isn’t here for another month or so.
The thanksgiving that gets my attention today is one of gratitude—thankfulness for so many ways our Creator God blesses us, and how, if we don’t notice, those precious gifts slip passed us.
As I relaxed last night at bedtime, it occurred to me: how thankful I was for the book in my hands, the freedom we have in this country to read what interests us. From sweet romances, to thick historical novels, self-help texts, cookbooks, philosophy, religion, or poetic musings, our choices are endless.
We can all become anxious or frustrated by what’s happening in politics these days. Lord knows [thank God], nothing goes unnoticed by the Divine.
In the meantime, I could make a list of all the obvious things for which I’m thankful, but today feels like the time to notice some of those other precious gifts: this breath, the sunshine, a cozy blanket, a stranger’s smile, crisp mornings, a shiny apple.
Lord, help me to stop and notice the thanksgiving in every day.
How do I feel about being thankful for the little things?
What keeps me from noticing the precious gifts God gives me?
Can I take a moment to express my thankfulness to the Divine?
