Blessings for a joy-filled Christmas and Happy New Year 2020!
A few thoughts as I take a break over the next two weeks to enjoy the holidays with my beloved and family.
These last days leading up to Christmas and the New Year celebrations are likely filled with a string of important activities—baking, gift-wrapping, visits with friends, last minute shopping, religious services.
However, what if you and I were to choose at least one action that wasn’t on our To Do list? What if that heartfelt gesture on our part turned out to be just what someone else needed to truly feel the love and joy that is meant to be such an integral part of this season?
I invite you to pick one or two of the following—or come up with your own.
What if . . . you picked up the phone and called an old friend you haven’t spoken to for months, maybe years?
What if . . . you baked [or bought] an extra dozen cookies and took them to a neighbor you rarely speak to?
What if . . . you wrote a letter to someone you care about, whether they live in the same town or another country?
What if . . . you invited one or two people for a meal and offered to pick them up if necessary?
What if . . . you tell someone how much you appreciate them and why?
It’s no secret. Most actions of thoughtfulness and kindness require little money. They do ask of us to take a risk and reach out, make a meaningful connection, and trust that our good and gracious God will provide us with all we need to BE LOVE to friend or stranger.
